Walker services

Mass of Christian Burial for Ryan James Walker, 17, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Baldwin.

Ryan died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born July 18, 1986, in Lawrence, the son of Theodore F. and Colleen Sue Ferguson Walker.

Ryan was a senior at Free State High School and attended St. John School and West Junior High School. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

He was a drummer in the marching band, jazz ensemble and concert band at Free State High School, all-city Jazz Band, 5 O’clock St. John’s Jubilate Group and was active in the theater performance program at West Junior High School.

Survivors include his parents, of the home; a sister, Sarah Kathleen Walker, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, T.J., Baldwin; paternal grandparents, James and Jeanette Walker, Wichita; maternal grandparents, Ken and Karron Schwarz, Lawrence; and great-grandparents, Ray and Vivian June, Lawrence.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary or from noon until service time Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where family will receive friends after a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the Ryan Walker Jazz Band Scholarship Fund at Free State High School, sent in care of the mortuary.
