Seth Movsovitz, of Comfort Keepers in Lawrence, completed a comprehensive course on priority senior issues. The course is conducted by the Society of Certified Senior Advisors.

Bruce Schwyhart, president of CornerBank, has announced the election of Steven Hill to the board of directors for Cornerstone Alliance Ltd. Hill is the executive vice president and chief financial officer of CornerBank, a subsidiary of Cornerstone Alliance. CornerBank operates a bank in Lawrence.

Jo Hardesty, director/managing attorney of Legal Services for Students at Kansas University, was re-elected as secretary of the executive board of the National Legal Aid and Defender Assn., Student Legal Services Division.

Hardesty has been secretary since 1997 and has been re-elected to three terms. KU Legal Services for Students has been a member of the organization since 1988. Hardesty has been director/managing attorney since 1987.

Bob Schumann, Sabetha, has been named president of the Northeast Chapter of the Kansas Society of Financial Service Professionals for the 2003-2004 membership year. Schumann is a financial services professional who has worked with business owners and seniors for the past 20 years in helping with tax planning decisions on their retirement and estate planning decisions.

The Northeast Kansas Society of Financial Service Professionals represents an organization of professionals who specialize in financial planning and life underwriting.

Edward Zeller, of T&M Financial Inc. in Lawrence, also was elected to the organization’s board of directors.

Sheridan’s Frozen Custard has reached an agreement with the Kansas University athletics department and Mid-America Concessions to provide its products for KU athletic events this year.

The company will continue to provide concessions for Free State High School. A percentage of every sale is donated back to the Free State Booster Club.

Sheridan’s will operate three stands in the Kansas Union and one stand outside the stadium to serve tailgaters.

Jessica Crockett has joined Avanti HairSpa, Lawrence, as a massage therapist. Crockett, a 1996 Lawrence High School graduate, graduated from the Big Island Academy of Massage in Hawaii. She began an apprenticeship at the Power of Touch clinic and continued it at Island Therapeutic Massage. After graduating from massage school, she worked at the Graduates Clinic where alumni of BIAOM work as licensed practitioners.

She also has worked at Lawrence’s Lunaria Holistic Health Center and Salon Di Marco.

Coming events

The World Wide College of Auctioneering and the National Auctioneers Assn. are offering “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Auctions” from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Overland Park.

Paul Behr, president of the World Wide College of Auctioneering, will be a speaker. He has been an auctioneer for 32 years and has more then 7,500 auctions to his credit.

The seminar aims to help consumers buy and sell at auctions as well as those who would like to learn about a career in the auction industry.
