Only one movie opens at area multiplexes this weekend, and — surprise — it’s a sequel. “Jeepers Creepers 2” doesn’t have the sense of foreboding suspense as the original gore fest from two summers ago, but the new film has a pretty tight premise. This time a broken-down bus carrying a high school basketball team is attacked by the bat-winged menace known as the Creeper, who only has one day left to feed before he goes into a decades-long hibernation.

At the arthouse comes the new thriller “Dirty Pretty Things” from “High Fidelity” director Stephen Frears. Set in the London underbelly, the film follows an African immigrant who stumbles upon a sordid conspiracy after he finds a human heart in his hotel toilet. The result is a curious cinematic mix of eerie mystery and social melodrama.
