Infant dies in hanging by car-seat strap

A 9-month-old girl apparently became tangled in a strap of her child seat and was strangled while her mother stopped at a convenience store, authorities said.

Emory Uribe, 21, of Interlachen, was in the store for about four minutes Wednesday and didn't notice anything was wrong until she began the half-mile drive home, said Lt. Gary Bowling, assistant chief of patrol for the Sheriff's Office.

The infant was later pronounced dead at a hospital, Bowling said.

Escapee child molester gets life sentence

Nearly two months after slipping away from a courthouse as a jury convicted him of child sex abuse, a former Baptist minister was in court this time to hear his sentence: life in prison, plus 20 years.

Truman Evans, 57, of Louisa, fled July 1 as a jury deliberated his fate. He was found in Ohio.

Jurors had deliberated only 35 minutes before convicting Evans of first-degree sodomy on a 7-year-old boy and criminal attempt to commit first-degree sodomy on a 9-year-old girl.
