Sting pummel Fever

? Dawn Staley scored 20 points as the Charlotte Sting beat the Indiana Fever 80-50 Wednesday night for the second-most lopsided victory in team history.

Tamika Catchings scored 19 points and Natalie Williams added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Fever (14-17), who blew a 13-point first-half lead to lose for the seventh time in eight games.

The Sting snapped a two-game losing streak and opened a one-game lead over Cleveland in the battle for second place in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Andrea Stinson and Allison Feaster each added 16 points for the Sting (17-14), who closed the game by outscoring the Fever 48-16.

Charlotte beat Washington by 36 points in 1998.

Silver Stars 78, Storm 70, OT

San Antonio — Adrienne Goodson had a season-high 26 points and Marie Ferdinand scored six of her 25 points in overtime as San Antonio beat Seattle.

Lauren Jackson led the Storm with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Lynx 69, Mercury 66

Phoenix — Janell Burse and Katie Smith both scored 16 points, and Burse blocked a last-second three-point attempt as the Minnesota Lynx earned their first playoff berth. Anna DeForge led Phoenix with 18 points.
