KU official: Spouses can continue using Robinson Center

Kansas University provost David Shulenburger said Thursday that Robinson Center recreation passes will remain available to employees’ and retirees’ spouses, and he apologized for what he said was a breakdown in KU’s decision-making process.

“It’s one of these things that I’m sorry about, because it made people feel bad and shouldn’t have,” he said.

Robinson staff started notifying spouses earlier this year that they wouldn’t be able to renew their $50 annual passes. But Shulenburger said the committee that made that decision — a group charged with helping make the transition between Robinson and KU’s new student-recreation center — didn’t have the authority to do so and never received his office’s approval.
