Subhashini Gaika, a Kansas University graduate student from India, reads in the shade near a bed of flowers wilted by the heat. Gaika was reading Wednesday near the intersection of 15th Street and Wakarusa Drive in between gathering traffic volume data for a research project. Gaika is studying the impact that additional residential development would have on local trafficways. Classes begin today at KU.
