Blake services

Services for Jesse Eugene Blake, 24, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Wesleyan Church.

Mr. Blake died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in a car accident on U.S. Highway 40 west of Lawrence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1978, in Winchester, the son of Gary Eugene and Nina Snook Blake. He attended Lawrence Alternative High School and graduated in 1997. He then studied culinary arts at Johnson Community College for two years.

Mr. Blake was an apprentice cook at the Kansas University Alumni Center until it closed its food service. He then worked for a year at Shalor’s restaurant. He also was a carpenter with his father for GEBCO Construction Co.

Survivors include his father, Lawrence; his mother and stepfather, Nina Snook Blindt and Gary Blindt, Edgerton; five sisters, Manda Smith and Christy Blindt, both of Lawrence, Corinne Blake, Edgerton, Kathel Smith, Ithaca, N.Y., and Kerri Thomas, Oskaloosa; three brothers, Todd Miller, Baldwin, Shane Blindt, Kansas City, Mo., and David Blindt, Topeka; and grandparents, Kathel Snook, McLouth, Donna and Arthur Blake, Las Vegas, and Adrian Blindt, Topeka.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Alternative High School-Jesse Blake Memorial, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
