Lawrence muralist in NYC exhibits

Lawrence artist Dave Loewenstein is represented in two New York City art shows this summer.

The first is called “Art Against War.” It includes four of Loewenstein’s prints. It originated in New York and is now traveling.

The second show, which runs through Sept. 27, is at the National Academy of Design, where Loewenstein received a fellowship in mural painting.

KU theater department offers children’s classes

Kansas University’s theater and film department will offer three after-school drama classes this fall at Murphy Hall.

Classes are taught by Jeanne Klein and college students enrolled in her Children and Drama course.

Parents may register their children in the Murphy Hall lobby on the following dates:

• Children in grades 1-3, registration 5:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 2, classes 4 p.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 13 and 20 and Dec. 4.
• Children in grades 4-6, registration 5:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 20, classes 4 p.m.- 5 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28, Nov. 4,11, 18 and 25 and Dec. 2.

LHS student earns photography honor

Ali Dankenbring, a Lawrence High School junior, spent part of her summer at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and her work in a darkroom photography class earned her a full-tuition scholarship that paid for the course.

Dankenbring was accepted based on her portfolio and a letter of recommendation from her photography teacher, Angelia Perkins.
