Brian and Jody Steiner, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Isaac Alexander Steiner, born Aug. 3, 2003, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He has a brother, Nick, 8.

Maternal grandparents are Jim and Pam Smith, Lawrence, and Roger and Betty Tuckel, Maple Hill. Paternal grandparents are John and JoAnn Steiner, Great Bend. Great-grandparents are Hilda Ille, Great Bend, and Russell Tuckel, Lawrence.

Daniel and Jean Grotewohl, Fraser, Colo., announce the birth of a daughter, Nora Louise Grotewohl, born July 9, 2003, at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver.

She has a sister, Lilianna, 2.

Paternal grandparents are Jack and Margaret Grotewohl, Lawrence.

Melissa Colgan and Michelle Colgan, both of Lawrence, participated in several American Junior Simmental Assn. events this summer. Michelle is president of the Kansas Junior Simmental Assn. Melissa is on the board of directors for the KJSA and is AJSA national regional vice president.

In June, they attended the North Central Region Classic in Mason City, Iowa. Melissa and Michelle were members of the second-place Senior Beef Quiz Bowl team, the first-place Senior Herdsman Quiz team, and the second-place Senior Sire Summary team. Melissa placed first in the Senior Herdsman Quiz.

In July, they attended the AJSA National Classic XXIII in Kearney, Neb. Melissa and Michelle were members of the first-place Senior Sire Summary team, the first-place Senior Herdsman Quiz team, and the first-place Senior Overall team. Melissa placed third in the Senior Sire Summary, fourth in Senior Herdsman Quiz, and 11th as the Senior Overall Individual. Michelle placed fifth in Senior Sales Talk.

Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, Mo., has announced summer degree recipients. Kristi Wilson, Lawrence, received a master of public administration degree. Ljubica Petrova, Lawrence, earned a master of business administration degree.

Jessica Redding, Lawrence, earned a bachelor of arts degree in art in May from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa. She is the daughter of Larry and Nomi Redding.

Adam Canterbury, Edgerton, has been named a winner in the W. Grant McMurray Vision Scholarship competition at Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa. He will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which is renewable to $8,000. He will be a senior at Baldwin High School this fall and plans to major in theater and psychology at Graceland University.

Sarah McCullough, Lawrence, graduated in May from Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas, with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Sylvia Duruh, Lawrence, received a bachelor of science in nursing in May from the college of nursing at Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J.

Descendants of Louis and Elisabeth Haas had a reunion Aug. 10 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Worden. The Chris Niebrugge family played host to a basket dinner. Alan Niebrugge, president, and Darlene Schwarz, secretary, conducted a short business meeting.
