Clarksville, Tenn. ? Lawrence’s Bob Glass had a premonition after leading the qualifying Monday for the PBA Senior Clarksville Open tournament.

“Leading is a curse,” said Glass, who averaged 229.06 and knocked down 3,655 pins during two eight-game qualifying rounds to edge Roger Workman by one pin for the first qualifying position. “There’s only been one person that led qualifying and won the tournament. That was Lee Snow in Klamath Falls.”

Snow’s record remains intact.

In Tuesday morning’s round of 32, reigning Rookie of the Year Vince Mazzanti Jr., who qualified first last week in the PBA Senior Manassas Open, knocked off Glass, three games to two.

“Unfortunately, I am not a curse breaker,” Glass said. “I’m a curse follower. You never want to bowl someone at the bottom. They have nothing to lose.”

Mazzanti, the No. 32 seed, won 232-224, 224-228, 176-247, 268-256, 215-203.

Glass, a two-time senior player of the year, settled for a $1,000 payoff.
