Angels’ Erstad sidelined

Cleveland — Anaheim Angels outfielder Darin Erstad was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of tendinitis in his hamstring, an injury that has been nagging him all season. Erstad, who has been told he may eventually need surgery to fix his hamstring, said he had been unable to do anything without pain.

Piazza may delay return

Norfolk, Va. — Mike Piazza might extend his minor-league rehabilitation assignment. Piazza, who went 1-for-3 and caught six innings Saturday night in his third rehab outing with Triple-A Norfolk, has only been able to hit in the batting cages beneath the right-field stands because of the rain this week.
