Lawrence orchestra gets new manager

The Lawrence Chamber Orchestra at its July 29 board meeting appointed Mick Braa as its new general and personnel manager.

Braa is a visual artist and has extensive experience as an arts administrator, including an art degree from Baker University. He also has completed graduate work at Baker and Kansas universities.

Braa, a Eudora resident, succeeds Bill Goodwin, who held the position for two years and will resume his prior position as treasurer.

John Wilkinson took over as president of the orchestra’s board, replacing violinist Eric T. Williams, who remains on the board as past president.

Art sale to benefit Friends of the Library

Sales from an exhibition of “Flower Scans” by Lawrence computer artist John Heider will benefit the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library.

Twelve framed flower scans, including the rose pictured above and the sunflower at left, are on view this month in the Library Media Room.

Heider’s process involved placing live flowers on a computer image scanner and printing those images to photo paper. The result is an image with almost three-dimensional depth in a two-dimensional medium.

The framed scans are being sold for $25 each. Additional unframed prints are available for $15, with all proceeds going to the Friends of the Library.
