Houston ? Reliever Rick White is not a member of the Houston Astros, it turns out.

The Astros announced Wednesday they had signed him, but there is no deal — instead of being a free agent, White still belonged to the Chicago White Sox at the time.

“I thought he was a free agent, and it turns out that wasn’t the case,” Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker said Friday. “He’s still the property of the White Sox, and the transaction cannot move forward.”

White was 1-2 with one save and a 6.61 ERA for the White Sox.
