Judge will consider reducing Walker’s bail

? A judge plans to hear arguments today on whether to reduce the bail for a Topeka woman who is accused of trying to trick an Indiana couple into believing she was their long-lost daughter.

Donna Lynette Walker’s attorney, Billy Rork, filed a motion Monday seeking to reduce Walker’s bail from $100,000 to $10,000. Walker is charged in Indiana with felony identity deception and misdemeanor false reporting. Prosecutors said she told an Indiana couple that she was their daughter, missing since 1986.

“I’m very optimistic,” Rork said Tuesday of getting the bail reduced.

Walker has said she was only trying to help in the search for Shannon Marie Sherrill, who was 6 years old when she disappeared while playing hide-and-seek near her mother’s home in Thorntown, Ind., about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

The bail hearing in Shawnee County District Court is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday, before Judge Nancy Parrish. Last week, Judge Thomas Conklin declared Walker a flight risk in setting her bond.

Indiana officials plan to seek Walker’s extradition, a request that will come from the governor’s office there. However, as of Tuesday, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius had not received such a request, which could take a to a month.
