Lawrence residents Corrinna Beck and Cortney Lehmann have joined Lawrence-based Prosoco.

As an office assistant, Beck supports several Prosoco department heads, including office manager, human resources director, and technical and marketing reference manager. Beck also works at KU’s Emily Taylor Women’s Resource Center. She serves as a sexual assault prevention and education program coordinator. Beck is enrolled in a dual master’s degree program at Kansas University. She’s studying law and social welfare.

As customer care representative, Lehmann works with the company’s distributors to help them ensure timely delivery of Prosoco products to construction sites nationwide. Lehmann previously worked as an office assistant at Old Home Depot in Lawrence and as a customer service supervisor at Disney Direct Marketing in Overland Park. She’s studying business administration at KU.

Lynnette Wood, nursery manager for Lawrence Landscape, recently passed the examination for certified pesticide applicator. Certified pesticide applicators must show an understanding of safe pesticide use by undergoing training and passing a comprehensive written examination before they are certified by the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Wood’s responsibilities include the two Lawrence Landscape nursery operations.

Melissa Colgan, Lawrence, was elected to serve on the American Junior Simmental Assn.’s board of trustees as north central region vice president. She was elected during the association’s National Classic XXIII in Kearney, Neb.

Timothy Foster, Lawrence, has become an associate member of the National Association of Home Inspectors Inc. Membership is offered to individuals who are pursuing a career in the home inspection industry and have demonstrated a desire to deliver the most professional home inspection available. Foster works for Amerispect.

Edward Jones has hired Liz Kundin as the new investment representative for Lawrence’s branch office located at 2449 Iowa. Kundin previously was chief financial officer of CREW Network and CREW Foundation. Karen Kelm will continue to serve the office as branch office administrator.

Desima Dawdy, Polestar certified pilates practitioner, has completed a teaching affiliate rotation for Pilates Studio Series and Pilates Reformer in Denver. Dawdy’s summer teaching assignment was at the University of Miami where she was assisting Cirque Du Soleil performers, competitive runners and international students to learn the Polestar Pilates Method. Dawdy is co-owner of Absolute Fitness in Topeka and Pilates Performance and Rehab in both Topeka and Lawrence.

The Lawrence-based Golf Course Superintendents Association of America recently played host to about 50 individuals who represented environmental and golf interests. The event was a planning session for The Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization serving the golf industry.

Med-Equip Sales and Service has merged with Knoll Patient Supply Inc. Registered pharmacist Gary Fincham is now the pharmacist in charge for Knoll Patient Supply at 536 Fireside Court. He will fill medication needs and focus on Medicare patients with respiratory disease.

Registered respiratory therapist Matt Groves has been promoted to Lawrence branch director for Knoll. He previously served the Topeka and Lawrence area as account executive and respiratory therapist. Groves earned a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy and has hospital, sleep lab and home care experience. In addition to patient care and therapy instruction, he will hire and train staff and ensure positive customer service.

Dennis Ediger has been hired as an oxygen technician. He will demonstrate proper equipment use and make home deliveries of oxygen and other medical equipment.

Vickie Reese has been named as a certified fitter for Jobst-Custom support stockings and other Jobst products. She is the customer service representative.

Ron Miller and Robert Meiers announced the formation of Miller Meiers Inc., Design for Communication. The new Lawrence-based company will provide creative marketing services for both businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Tina Labellarte has joined the fund-raising consulting firm Partners In Philanthropy. Labellarte will provide clients services in capital campaigns, major and planned giving programs, board development, strategic planning and nonprofit management.

Labellarte was most recently executive director of the American Red Cross, Kansas Capital Area Chapter in Topeka. Partners In Philanthropy has offices in Lawrence, Kansas City and Omaha.

Honors and Awards

Peggy Johnson, a financial adviser with American Express Financial Advisors in Lawrence, has been named to the company’s Circle of Success program and been invited to the company’s Inner Circle Conference.

The program recognizes sales and service levels obtained by the company’s advisers.

Das Autohaus, Lawrence, has earned a Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. The program recognizes businesses that have a work force that is made up of at least 75 percent of ASE-certified professionals.

In recognition of outstanding sales and customer service achievements in the insurance business, Tom Pollard was honored by Farmers Insurance through membership in the company’s Topper Club.

Coming events

The application deadline for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2003 Rural Storm Shelter Program is Aug. 15. The program can provide low interest loans to very-low income homeowners living in rural Kansas to help finance storm shelters. Lawrence tourism officials announced that the city’s annual Civil War on the Western Frontier Days will run Friday through Aug. 24.

The event, which is in its eighth year, revolves around the Aug 21 anniversary of William Quantrill’s raid on Lawrence. Events include a Night Before the Raid program that reviews the events of the day preceding Quantrill’s Raid and the city’s efforts to defend itself, tours of the Quantrill’s path and candlelight vigil.
