Pendleton

Al and Lorita Pendleton

Al and Lorita Pendleton, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with a family dinner.

Al Pendleton and Lorita Higginbottom were married Aug. 2, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

After serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, Al received a degree in agricultural economics in 1950 from Kansas State University.

Lorita received a degree in art education in 1948 from Kansas University. She taught in Abilene and the Lawrence public school system before their marriage. The couple has farmed east of Lawrence since 1953.

Their children are Jim and Barbara Pendleton, Germantown, Tenn.; John and Karen Pendleton, Lawrence; Scott and Cindy Pendleton, Orlando, Fla.; and the late Marilyn Lacey Pendleton. They have eight grandchildren.

Pennybaker

Dale and Rita Pennybaker

Dale and Rita Pennybaker, Lawrence, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dale Pennybaker and Rita Thompson were married July 31, 1953, in Emporia. They met at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. They lived in Burlington; Iowa City, Iowa; Fremont, Neb.; Minot, N.D.; Wayne, Neb., and Evergreen, Colo.

Dale served in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea. He is retired from coaching and athletics administration. Rita is retired from school teaching. The couple returned to Kansas in 1990.

Their children are Kent and Janet Pennybaker, Lawrence. They have two grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Price

Esther and Glenn Price

Glenn and Esther Price, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 29-July 4 with a family reunion at the Spring Mill Inn in Spring Mill State Park, Ind.

They were married Jan. 4, 1953, in Independence, Mo.

Glenn is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with degrees in broadcasting. Esther attended Detroit Business University in Detroit.

They met at the Kansas University radio station, KANU, in 1952. Glenn was continuity editor and Esther was office manager.

In 1966, Glenn joined the faculty at KU to teach broadcasting courses in the department of speech and drama. He retired from teaching in 1989. After raising a family, Esther returned to work in the housing department at KU. She also worked for the Kansas Geological Survey. She retired in 1991.

The couple’s children are Mary Ann Johnson, Topeka; Marsha Bales, St. Francisville, Ill.; Kenneth Price, Lenexa; Jeffrey Price, Chantilly, Va., and the late Kevin Price. They have 13 grandchildren.

Daniels

Norman and Elaine Daniels

Norman and Elaine Daniels, rural Lecompton, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family.

Norman Daniels and Elaine Banks were married July 18, 1953, in the Lecompton United Brethren Church parsonage.

Norman received a business degree in 1958 from Kansas University. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad, Kansas Insurance Department and Standard Mutual Insurance Co. He retired in 1992 from CBW Automation.

Elaine received a degree in education from KU in 1968. She was an elementary school teacher and homemaker.

The couple’s children are Ed Daniels, Lecompton, and Kay Taylor, Carterville, Ill. They have four grandchildren.

Russell

Jim and Linda Russell, Baldwin, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

Jim Russell and Linda Taul were married Aug. 4, 1963, in Worden.

Linda is employed by the Baldwin public school district. Jim is employed by Central Fibers, Wellsville. Their children are Tim and Tracy Russell, Baldwin; Bob and Lisa Russell, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Sarah and Jared Bates, New Albany, Ind. The couple has seven grandchildren.
