Dye to have surgery, will miss 3-to-5 weeks

Oakland, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder Jermaine Dye on the 15-day disabled list before Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Indians because of torn cartilage in his right knee.

He’s expected to miss three-to-five weeks and will undergo surgery Tuesday to remove floating cartilage.

Rivera set to rejoin Yankees Tuesday

Tampa, Fla. — Yankees closer Mariano Rivera expects to rejoin the team for the start of a six-game homestand Tuesday after pitching a perfect inning Saturday in his third extended spring training start.

Robinson to be honored with congressional medal

Los Angeles — Jackie Robinson will be honored posthumously with a Congressional Gold Medal, Congress’ highest honor.

Los Angeles Dodgers president and CEO Bob Graziano said the honor is “well-deserved and long overdue.”

Hamstring injury forces Erstad to DL

Anaheim, Calif. — The Anaheim Angels placed center fielder Darin Erstad on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday because of tendinitis in his right hamstring, and called up outfielder Gary Johnston from Triple-A Salt Lake.
