Betty J. Squires

Mrs. Squires died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was cremated.

She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Pittsburg, the daughter of Otho H. and Marie G. (Beine) Byers. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Pittsburg State University and a library science degree from Emporia State University.

Mrs. Squires was an elementary school librarian for the Lawrence school district. She was a charter member of Chapter GQ of P.E.O. and Nu Conclave of Kappa Kappa Iota and was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church.

She married Paul E. Squires on Feb. 6, 1943, in Pittsburg. He died Dec. 21, 1972.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth A. Squires and Gary D. Squires, both of Lawrence; a sister, Rebecca Milner, Magnolia, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or New York School Library Fund, sent in care of Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
