Ethical standard

To the editor:

The people or fans of Lawrence, Kansas, who follow KU basketball were hurt by the (if you will) plunder or raiding of Roy Williams by North Carolina. This has left a sour note in the hearts and minds of KU fans.

Dr. Hemenway wants KU to be one of the top 10 universities in the United States. To be a great university, why must KU go after another university’s coach? Buying a coach here or there equals what? Now, that university feels what we are feeling. Let’s stop this procedure, take applications and recruit the best of whoever applies. If Dr. Hemenway wants KU to be an elite university academically, can’t this form of high ethical standard transfer to other departments — the athletic department included?
