Charles E. Gaffney

No services are planned for Charles E. Gaffney, 69, Lawrence.

Mr. Gaffney died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 26, 1934, in Albion, Mich., the son of Charles and Virginia (Strunk) Gaffney. He moved to Boy’s Town in Omaha, Neb., at age 11 and graduated from Boy’s Town High School in 1953. While in high school, he toured 48 states with the choral ensemble from Boy’s Town.

Mr. Gaffney served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War. He was a nurse until he retired after 22 years. He had also worked for Paramount Studios in Hollywood and as a security specialist for Lockheed Martin in Burbank, Calif. He was a Silver Haired Legislature representative for Douglas County for two years and a member of Lion’s Club and Odd Fellows, both in St. John. He was a member of the Chatsworth, Calif., Elks Lodge for 35 years.

He married Bettie Wilson on Sept. 28, 1991, in Las Vegas. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Deena Wilson, Lawrence; a son, Juan Hernandez Nunez, Leavenworth; a brother, Joe, Corydon, Ind.; a sister, Beverly Boike, Taylor, Mich.; and a grandchild.
