IN 1978

The Army Corps of Engineers office in Kansas City announced that construction on the public use areas around Clinton Lake should be far enough along by May 1 to allow continued filling of the lake proper. There were hopes the lake could be fully operational by the summer of 1980.

The Douglas County Public Health Committee agreed to reject a proposed comprehensive countywide sanitation code, saying current regulations were satisfactory.

IN 1963

Friendship 7, America’s pioneer spacecraft, commanded a lot of raves from visitors who saw it on display at the KU Engineering Exposition. Air Force Capt. Joe Engle, an astronaut and a KU graduate, was at the expo in conjunction with the display.
