LHS, FSHS tie for 7th at golf tourney

? Lawrence High’s and Free State’s boys golf teams tied for seventh at the Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational Monday at Shawnee Golf and Country Club.

In the first of two Sunflower League meets — the other is the Lawrence Invitational May 14 — Olathe East dominated, carding a 319, well ahead of second place schools Olathe North and Shawnee Mission West, at 335.

The best city score was from LHS junior Daniel Brumley, who shot an 85, while FSHS sophomore Stephan Skepnek shot an 86.

“Still, that’s not all that bad,” FSHS coach Jack Schreiner said. “It’s one of those courses where you have to have played it. You play it a second time and it’s gonna be a five, six stroke difference.”
