KU baseball routs Sooners, wins series

? Kansas University banged out 20 hits and won its second Big 12 Conference baseball series in two weeks with a 16-6, run-rule-shortened rout Sunday of Oklahoma at Mitchell Park.

Kansas (31-16 overall, 6-9 Big 12) won two of the three games in the series.

OU (14-22, 2-13) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Jayhawks tied it in the second. Then Kansas exploded for seven runs in the fourth and added two runs each in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Kevin Wheeler, Matt Tribble and Travis Metcalf each had three hits for Kansas. Tribble and Metcalf also each had four RBIs.

Ryan Baty, Casey Spanish, Sean Flynn and Matt Baty each had two hits for KU.

Wheeler (5-2) picked up the victory. He allowed six runs — all earned — off 10 hits over seven innings.

KU will travel Wednesday to Wichita State. First pitch will be 7 p.m.
