Calvary Temple Assembly of God

Easter breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Sunday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

Donations for the breakfast will go to home missions.

Sunday school for all ages is at 9:30 a.m.

The Rev. Marshall Lackrone will preach an Easter sermon at 10:30 a.m.

An Easter egg hunt for children 12-under will be held after the worship service.

There will also be a 6:30 p.m. Sunday service.

Centenary United Methodist Church

An outdoor worship service will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 245 N. Fourth St.

The church youth, and Amanda Larsen, student intern pastor, will lead the service on the property west of the sanctuary.

An all-church breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday in the Upper Room.

Sunday school classes for all ages, and a children’s Easter egg hunt, will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Traditional morning worship, led by the Rev. Judy Long O’Neal, will be held at 10:50 a.m. in the sanctuary.

The public is welcome to attend Easter activities.

Central United Methodist Church

Easter services will be held at 7 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, 1501 Mass.

Loving Arms, a grief support group, meets at 7 p.m. Mondays.

Safe Landing, a divorce support group, begins at 7 p.m. April 27.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

“Hunt for Peace,” an Easter egg hunt for all ages, will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway.

Activities will include a moon walk, a 22-foot slide, puppet shows, a cake walk, balloon animals, face painting, cookie decorating and free hamburgers and hot dogs. The event is open to the public.

Worship Intended for the Severely Disabled (WISH) will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today in the activity center.

A Bible study, “The Old Testament Made Easy,” is held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, led by MaryLou McGonigle and the Rev. Rick Burwick.

Refuge Youth Group Rally is Wednesday. Pre-Rally prayer starts at 6 p.m. The Rally starts at 7 p.m.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Easter Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

First Baptist Church

The community is invited to attend Resurrection worship Sunday at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

Communion will be celebrated in the 8:30 a.m. service, and Christian Baptism will be celebrated in the 10:45 a.m. service.

The Rev. Marcus McFaul will preach at both services. Topic is “Am I Seeing Who I Think I’m Seeing, or is It a Mirage?”

Both services will also feature the Chancel Choir, accompanied by brass and organ. The children’s choir will sing, and the Pente Ringers will ring.

First Christian Church

The community is welcome to attend Easter Sunday services at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

A traditional worship service begins at 9 a.m., followed by a contemporary service at 11 a.m.

Special music will be woven through both celebrations. Prelude begins at 8:55 a.m. Musical selections include: “Entrata Festiva” for organ and brass; the choir and instruments will perform “Easter Fanfare” and “Easter Fantasia”; favorite hymns and the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Sunday school for all ages will be held from 10:10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.

First United Methodist Church

A sunrise Easter service will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the west campus of First United Methodist Church, near the junction of Kansas Highway 10 and U.S. Highway 40.

The 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services will be held in the sanctuary at the church’s downtown location, 946 Vt., and will include the Chancel Choir, Children’s Choir and Celebration Ringers.

Women are invited to attend the United Methodist Women’s Connection Event at 6 p.m. Tuesday for dinner or 7 p.m. for the program in the fellowship hall.

Dr. Michael Fox, professor of health policy and management at the Kansas University School of Medicine, will provide information about the uninsured, insurance reform and universal health care. Call the church office at 841-7500 to sign up.

April is First UMC’s month to collect food for the Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry. Supplies are low, and donations of peanut butter, jelly and toilet issue are especially needed.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

The Easter Sunday worship schedule at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2211 Inverness Drive, is as follows: 8:30 a.m. sunrise service; 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Easter breakfast; 9:30 a.m. Easter egg hunt for children; and 10:30 a.m. Resurrection service.

The Rev. Jeff Lilley will preside at both services, which will celebrate Holy Communion in a service of word and music. The services will feature the Good Shepherd Choir, led by Jane Boberg and accompanied by Kelley Witmer on piano and organ.

Easter breakfast, which is open to the community, will be served in the lower level of the fellowship hall.

Please bring your own basket or sack to the Easter egg hunt.

Heartland Community Church

A special Easter program will be held at 11 a.m. at Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt.

Craig Sheller and the Heartland Band & Singers will provide contemporary Christian music, and the drama team will present “A Change in Tee Time.”

The Rev. Paul Gray will preach on “What’s It All About?”

Ives Chapel United Methodist Church

A spaghetti dinner is planned from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 30 in the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, 1018 Miami, in Baldwin.

Proceeds will go to an Africa mission trip.

Tony Ikenberry, volunteer in mission, will go to Kenya in September to serve at the Maua Methodist Hospital. This will be Ikenberry’s third year to Maua.

The United Methodist Church’s Volunteer in Mission Program is served by people who commit their time, and provide their own transportation and expenses, for short-term service on a mission trip sponsored by the Kansas East Conference.

Lawrence Ministerial Alliance

In an undertaking called “Ecumenical Prayer for Peace,” churches of the Lawrence Ministerial Alliance will be open to the public for brief prayer services from 12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting Monday.

Services will be held Mondays at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.; Tuesdays at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.; Wednesdays at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.; Thursdays at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.; and Fridays at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The community is invited to come and pray for the leaders of the nation and the world, those who serve in the United States armed forces and for the building of a lasting peace in Iraq and elsewhere.

The services will continue until June 6.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

Children of all ages are invited to participate in an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. Sunday at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway.

The hunt will feature food, games and a petting zoo. Maps for the hunt will be distributed at the church.

Easter worship services will be held at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. The early service will be more traditional, while the latter services will have a contemporary flavor.

The Rev. Nathan Rovenstine will present the message in each service.

Nursery care will be provided during each service, and Sunday school will be available during the 9:45 a.m. service for children 3 and older.

Mother to Mother of Douglas County

Mother to Mother of Douglas County, a ministry supported by a group of churches in the Lawrence area, has launched its annual fund-raiser, “A Tribute to Mothers.”

The tribute honors mothers by publishing their names in the Lawrence Journal-World on Mother’s Day, May 11.

Tributes can be purchased April 27 and May 4 after Sunday worship services at area churches, or by calling Mother to Mother’s office at 841-0838.

Deadline for all purchases is 10 a.m. May 5.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

The public is invited to attend a special production of the Easter story, “Once a Man,” at 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive.

There is no charge to attend either performance of this original musical drama.

Easter celebration for children of Mustard Seed will be held during the children’s church Sunday. The Easter story will be shared, and activities will include games, music and a candy hunt.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Three special and different Easter services will be held Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

At 7:30 a.m., the confirmation class will lead the service.

At 9:30 a.m., the traditional Easter service will be held, featuring the Chancel Choir, led by Helen Hawley, accompanied by brass.

The 11:15 a.m. service will feature Plymouth youth presenting selections from “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

Easter Vigil will begin at 8:30 p.m. today with the blessing of fire and the Paschal candle, Easter proclamation, salvation history Scriptures, initiation rites and liturgy of the Eucharist at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky.

Easter services will be held at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The first Easter service of the Episcopal Church, the Great Vigil of Easter, will begin at 7 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Baptism will be a part of this service.

The church will hold Easter services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 10:30 a.m. service will begin with the “Easter Fanfare,” written by James Ralston, featuring the Trinity Choir with brass and tympani.

The choir will also sing the “Hallelujah Chorus” by Handel and “Christ Our Passover” by Richard Dirksen, also with brass and tympani.

An Easter egg hunt will be held on the church lawn after the 10:30 a.m. service.

If weather is inclement, the hunt will be moved inside the church.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A pancake breakfast will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

A spiritual celebration of spring and Easter will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by fellowship and coffee from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence will begin Easter Sunday at 6:30 a.m. with a sunrise meditation in Centennial Park at Ninth Street and Rockledge Road.

The Rev. Sherry Schultz will share her Easter message, “Uprising of Hope,” at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services. An Easter egg hunt for children will follow the 11 a.m. service.

A time for meditation — 30 minutes of music, prayer and healing — will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday Worship, a mid-week service with music and a message, will be held at 7 p.m.

Unity Church is located at 900 Madeline Lane.

West Side Presbyterian Church

A pancake breakfast, sponsored by the church youth, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

Church school classes will meet at their regular hour of 9:30 a.m., with fellowship at 10:30 a.m.

The message of Easter at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service is Mary Magdalene’s message to the other disciples, “I Have Seen the Lord,” based on John 20:1-18.

The choir will sing “Rejoice” by Joseph Martin, and a special Sunday school Children’s Choir will present “Bullfrogs and Butterflies” by Barry McGuire, as a special offering to the Easter celebration.

The “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering, sponsored by many denominations, is taken once a year to give help, hope and life to those who are suffering from famine, natural disasters and economic hardships.

It is taken on Easter to focus on “Serve one another with whatever gift each of you received,” from I Peter 4:10b.
