The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met April 9. Eleven pairs competed in a stratified game that used a Howell movement.

Mary Joyce and Dan Schultz won first place in A and B. Jo Abbott and Lynn Hui finished second in A and B, and first in C. Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw took third in A and B. Karen LaForce and Russell LaForce placed fourth.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday. The stratified game attracted eight tables and used a Mitchell movement.

Playing North-South, Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee placed first in A and B. Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps took second in A and B. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough finished third. Judy Bevan and Bob Anderson placed third in B and first in C. Competing East-West, Jerry Sloan and Julia Brooks claimed first place. Mike Blumenfeld and Cathy Blumenfeld finished second in A and first in B and C. Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman finished third. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges took second in B.

The Lawrence Pilot Club met April 14 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The club voted to donate a U.S. flag to the Lecompton Historical Society. Club member Mae Holderman donated an afghan that was sold at an antiques show through a raffle. Money raised went to the Lawrence Humane Society. The club also helped with the Breakfast for a Cause, which raises money for the Alliance for Epilepsy Research.
