Leonard Eisele
Valley Falls ? Services for Leonard Eisele, 82, Valley Falls, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home, Valley Falls. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3084.
Mr. Eisele died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at a Nortonville care facility.
He was born April 26, 1920, in Lawrence, the son of Henry and Alma (Strobel) Eisele. He graduated from Tonganoxie High School, attended Eastern New Mexico University and graduated from Kansas State University in 1950.
Mr. Eisele was a pilot in the 5th Division and 20th Combat Mapping Squadron of the Army Air Force. He was stationed in the Pacific theater in World War II and attained the rank of first lieutenant. He was part of the first mapping mission done over Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped in August 1945.
He married Martha Ruff 57 years ago. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, James, Lawrence, and Dale, Grain Valley, Mo.; a daughter, Maxine Eisele, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Marion Hartman, Mill Creek, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
