To the editor:

Where did we go wrong, Roy? What was so horrible about being at Kansas that, even after pledging to stay here until you retire, you chose to leave? Was it when we gave an unknown assistant coach a chance to become the head coach of the defending national champions? Was it when the whole Jayhawk family got behind you from day one and treated you as if you were Dean Smith?

Was it when students camped out for days just to watch your team play? Was it when thousands of fans came to Memorial Stadium to hear you say “I’m staying”? Was it when thousands more fans came to the fieldhouse at 4 in the morning to welcome you and your team back home?

I can only hope that you won’t have to deal with such “nastiness” at North Carolina. I also hope that we find a coach whose dream has always been to coach at Kansas.
