Dad says signee Padgett headed to Kansas

David Padgett, one of four Kansas University men’s basketball signees, won’t be asking for a release from his letter of intent, according to his father.

“I know there have been a lot of rumors out there, and we need to put one to rest right now,” Pete Padgett told Sunflower Broadband Cable 6 Thursday. “There is no chance that David will go to North Carolina. None.”

Padgett, a 7-foot center from Reno, Nev., had narrowed his college choices to KU and North Carolina, and with former KU coach Roy Williams now the Tar Heels’ head man there had been speculation Padgett might decide to follow Williams to Chapel Hill, N.C.

Pete Padgett, who also coached his son at Reno, Nev., High, said he would be “shocked” if his son didn’t go to Kansas, regardless of whom KU officials choose as Williams’ replacement.

“Obviously, we’re very interested to see who is hired,” the elder Padgett said, “but I would be shocked if he’s not in Lawrence this summer.”

Padgett plans to enroll at KU for summer classes, his father said.
