Nellie Humphrey

Mrs. Humphrey died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Osawatomie, the daughter of Trinidad and Graciana (Venegas) Vasquez. She grew up in Osawatomie, where she attended St. Philip Neri School. She lived in Minneapolis, Minn., in Lane and in Lawrence for nine years, before moving to Ottawa in the mid-1980s.

Mrs. Humphrey worked at Davie’s Laundry in Osawatomie and in housekeeping at Kansas University. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa.

She married Jerald Thomas Humphrey on Aug. 8, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minn. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Jerald Thomas Humphrey Jr., Lexington Park, Md.; three daughters, Tina Iden, Lawrence, Laura Atchison, Baldwin, and Sandra Humphrey, Ottawa; a brother, Joe Vasquez, Osawatomie; two sisters, Toni Carter, Minneapolis, Minn., and Delphina Esquivel, Monrovia, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends immediately after the rosary service at the funeral home.
