NBA Roundup: Bucks grab playoff spot

Kukoc's 25 help Milwaukee clinch vs. Raptors

? The Milwaukee Bucks are in the playoffs, but not because of an impressive performance.

Toni Kukoc scored 25 points, and the Bucks clinched a playoff spot with a 105-103 win Friday night over the Toronto Raptors, who dressed only eight players and were missing their two best.

“I really don’t understand how we did it,” Milwaukee coach George Karl said. “I really think Toronto probably played the better basketball game tonight.”

Toronto’s Alvin Williams missed two chances to send the game into overtime in the final 10 seconds. On the first, he was fouled by Gary Payton on a drive to the basket with 6.3 seconds left in the game, but he made only one of two free throws to cut Milwaukee’s lead to 104-103.

Williams had one final opportunity, after Tim Thomas missed one of his free throws with 5.6 seconds left, but he missed a layup. Jerome Williams grabbed the rebound and powered down a dunk which would have tied the game, but it came after the buzzer. The officials used video replay and the play stood.

“I blew it,” Alvin Williams said. “We had an opportunity to win and I blew it. When you’re undermanned, you almost need to play a perfect game.”

Payton scored 24 points while Sam Cassell added 15 points and eight assists for Milwaukee, which has beaten the Raptors five straight times in Toronto.
