John E. Brogan

? Mass of Christian Burial for John E. Brogan, 88, Coffeyville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Coffeyville, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1022.

Mr. Brogan died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Moline, the son of Thomas and Sarah (Larkin) Brogan. He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1932. He moved to Coffeyville in 1935, to Los Angeles in 1941 and returned to Coffeyville in 1946.

Mr. Brogan worked at Ozark Smelting and Mining Co. in Coffeyville before working at the Navy shipyards in Los Angeles. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1944 and served with the 2nd Army Air Force Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was discharged in 1946 and worked for the city of Coffeyville, Continental Can and Farmland Industries, from which he retired in 1977 after more than 28 years of service. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus in Council 991, VFW Post No. 1022 and a 50-year member of American Legion Post No. 20, where he was post commander in 1971.

He married Helen L. Seigel on Nov. 27, 1940. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Tom Brogan, Spring, Texas; a daughter, Jon Kay Murphy, Lawrence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Two infant grandchildren died earlier.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel. Rosary services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
