Keshia Davis, a student at Bishop Seabury Academy, has been selected as a Hollins Batten Scholar by Hollins University, Roanoke, Va. The scholarship is awarded to only five new students each year and is the college’s most prestigious award.

Jennifer Tallman, daughter of Joyce Tallman of Lawrence, made the dean’s list at the University of Louisville in Kentucky for the fall 2002 semester by earning at least a 3.25 grade-point average. Jennifer will graduate in May with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in equine administration.

Dustin and Angela Jones, Eudora, announce the birth of a son, Dakota Jerel Jones, born Dec. 8, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Grandparents are Teresa and Earl Wilson, Eudora; Jeff and Beverlee Dover, Linwood; Bonnie and Virgil King, Lecompton, and Ruth Locke, Lawrence. Great-grandmother is Delores Howard, Lawrence.

Dr. Donald Nease Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Donald Nease of Lawrence, was selected by Kansas University to represent the university at the inauguration of Mary Coleman, 13th president of the University of Michigan, on March 27 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Nease is an assistant professor on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan.

He received a bachelor’s degree in 1983 and a master’s degree in 1987 from Kansas University.

Caitlin Welch, a Lawrence High School senior, has been awarded the 21st Century Science Scholarship from Bethel College for the 2003-04 school year. The scholarship is valued up to $4,000 over a four-year period.

Bethel College science faculty selected the scholarship recipients based on high school grades, test scores and interviews with science faculty. She is the daughter of Lonnie and Carolyn Welch, Lawrence.
