From the Lawrence Daily World of April 9, 1903: “With voter approval of the public library issues here, Mayor Selig is trying to make a list of members for the board for appointment, but he is not certain when he can complete it. He is anxious to have the library work pushed and does not want to have any delay. … It will come possibly as a matter of surprise to some of the city officials elected Monday to learn that by the provisions of a law passed at the last session of the legislature, they have been chosen for terms of two years instead of one. “
