Fashion springs forward

Pink, peasant, casual looks make it easy to stay in style

Warm weather lends itself better to thoughts about summer style than two more months in the classroom. It’s undeniable: Spring is here, and one part of spring includes the latest fashions.

This is the time to pack up the bulky turtlenecks, and let loose in something a little more, well, “fun.” Because the styles change constantly, it is hard to know the latest rules about white shoes and Labor Day or what crazy color is the new “pink,” but there is help.

First of all, forget all rules. If you are indeed 18 and under, like this page suggests, then you don’t need to worry about the rules. The point is to wear what you want. For those who really are looking for some fun ideas, fashion can be hard if you don’t know where to start.

For girls

A trendy classic is the peasant blouse. An interesting look is the see-through flower blouse with a tank top underneath. And especially for spring, this style, paired with a plastic flower in your hair, people will think you came right out of the spring catalog of Seventeen that coincidentally arrived in December.

Along with the flower, spring theme comes capris. Capris come in everything from jeans to floral print and plaid. To wear capris, you need to think about the shirt to pair it with. Make sure you don’t pair it with a matching tank top of the same print, or people will confuse you with their flowering bush. Stick with the plain colors on top.

One style that is fun and funky is to find a retro, light-colored T-shirt and pair it with a floral collar underneath. This look would be great with a faded pair of jeans.

For those tennis wannabes, the preppy tennis skirts are in. Pair them with a sporty T-shirt and a cap, and you’ll look ready.

For guys

If you’re interested in style, the spring look is layers. This means wearing a light-colored, long-sleeve shirt with a retro T-Shirt underneath. Don’t worry about looking conservative; this year the style is retro and laid-back.

Now that you are aware of a few styles that will be fun for spring, this is the time to break out of your shell to try them. Don’t worry about buying what everyone else is wearing; start your own fashion trends. And most of all, break all of the “fashion” rules.
