Nominated for a 2003 Academy Award for Best Documentary, “Daughter from Danang” on “American Experience” (8 p.m., PBS) chronicles the painful reunion between a Vietnamese mother and her Asian-American daughter, Heidi, who were separated since 1975. Raised in Pulaski, Tenn., since infancy, Heidi considers herself completely American and speaks no Vietnamese. After the initial euphoria of reunion, Heidi begins to feel smothered by her mother and her family’s affections, a feeling that makes Heidi feel guilty and more estranged than before. She soon learns that the divisions caused by war and decades of silence call for more than kind gestures and good will.

Jesse L. Martin (“Law & Order”) is host of “Art Crimes and Mysteries” (9 p.m., Bravo), documenting recent art frauds and museum heists, the criminals behind them and the authorities who solved each case. Tonight’s installment looks at the 1994 theft of Edward Munch’s famous painting “The Scream” from Norway’s National Gallery. It took thieves less than a minute to snatch the masterpiece and leave behind a hand-written note stating, “Thanks for the poor security.” “Art Crimes” will air over the next six nights.
