IN 1963

A proposed drawing for the Clinton Dam was unveiled for the first time. There were hopes the long-awaited lake southwest of Lawrence could be finished and opened to general use as early as 1980.

IN 1903

From the Lawrence Daily World of April 6, 1903: “The Schmeltzer loving cup offered by the Schmeltzer Sporting Good Co. to the fraternity which held the interfraternity all-sports championship for three years in succession was won last season by the Phi Delts. It is very doubtful this year as to who will win the cup, but the victory lies between the Phi Delts, Betas and Phi Psis. …

“There ought to be a more concerted effort to save the elm trees in this town. It is too much to hope the recent snows have entirely killed the eggs of the destructive moths.”
