Scouting news

Boy Scouts from Troop 53, chartered to the First Christian Church, and a scout from Troop 52 spent spring break at Sea Base in the Florida Keys, a Scouting High Adventure Base. Two separate crews were formed, with each taking a different type of trip.

One crew took a sailing trip, spending five days on the Viewfinder, a 42-foot sailboat, and one day in Key West. The boys participated in sailing, snorkeling and fishing. Mitchell Grant, Aaron Ideus, Scott Shreders and Colin Watgen, Troop 53, and Bill Berkowitz, Troop 52, participated in the sailing, along with adult crew advisers Craig Grant and Tyler Padden.

The second crew did the Out Island Adventure, spending five days on an island and one day in Key West. The boys participated in a 5-mile canoe trip to and from the island. They also went camping, kayaking, deep-sea fishing and snorkeling. Chris Berger, Michael Hurting, Jimmy Kelley, Bob Larrabee, Hamilton Lewis and Julian Spangler participated in that trip. They were accompanied by Ron Spangler, scoutmaster, and Carey Berger.
