Professor to discuss origins of Christianity, biblical women’s roles and representations

Amy-Jill Levine, Ph.D., the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor at Vanderbilt University Divinity School/graduate department of religion, will speak Sunday and Monday in Lawrence as the 2003 Theologian In Residence.

She will also speak Tuesday at Washburn University in Topeka.

All of her appearances in Lawrence and Topeka are free of charge and open to the community.

Sunday

  • 9:45 a.m.: “Women’s Role in the Bible,” educational forum at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.
  • 11 a.m.: “Women’s Role in the Bible,” worship at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.
  • 3 p.m.-5 p.m.: “The Bible and Sexuality,” workshop at First Presbyterian Church.
  • 6:30 p.m.: “My Faith Journey,” a short reflection on Levine’s own life, First Presbyterian Church.
  • 7 p.m.: Opportunity for questions and comments from Levine, First Presbyterian Church.

Monday

  • Noon: “Conversations with Amy-Jill,” Brown Bag Lunch at Kansas University’s Burge Union, Gridiron Room.
  • 7:30 p.m.: “Giving Birth to the Church: The Lost History of the Women Who Followed Jesus,” KU Religious Studies Lecture, Malott Room, Kansas Union.
