WSU sweeps Kansas

Shocker pitchers stifle Jayhawks

The Kansas University softball team ran into two impressive pitchers Wednesday, losing two games against Wichita State.

In the first game, Wichita State hurler Lindsey Lang allowed just six hits in a 8-2 Shocker victory. Junior Kara Pierce (13-7) picked up the loss for the Jayhawks, allowing 12 hits and eight runs in five-plus innings.

Freshman Jessica Moppin had two hits and a home run and scored twice, but KU had few offensive highlights. Freshman Nettie Fierros added a hit and an RBI for the Jayhawks.

It got better in the second game, but barely. Senior Kirsten Milhoan (8-4) allowed just four Shocker runs, but the Jayhawks could only muster five hits against WSU pitcher Lindsay Craig in a 4-3 loss.

Moppin was the offensive standout again, collecting two hits. Freshman Melaney Torres had two runs and an RBI, and freshman Ashley Frazer added an RBI. Freshman Destiny Frankenstein had a hit and two walks and scored a run in the loss.

The Jayhawks (21-11) return to action this weekend with a two-game series on the road against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. KU will play the Red Raiders at 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
