Kansas students set to select quarter

? A bill allowing high school students to select the preferred design for Kansas’ commemorative quarter has cleared the Legislature.

The measure provides for a commission to review submissions of suggested designs for the quarter, with five finalists to be put to a vote of high school students throughout the state in spring 2004.

The bill was approved Friday by both the House and Senate.

Kansas’ coin is to be released in 2005 as part of the Mint’s 50 State Quarter Program.
