Radio program to launch new season

'Between the Ears' to open Saturday

It’s a brand-new season for “Right Between the Ears.” Kansas Public Radio’s resident rib-ticklers are back with the season opener of their award-winning comedy show at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hall, 642 Mass.

The 8 p.m. show will be broadcast live on Kansas Public Radio stations and on the Web at kanu.ku.edu.

Among the targets for the troupe’s comic slings and arrows will be TV’s “American Idol,” “The Anna Nicole Show” and “The Crocodile Hunter”; the Bush White House and its continuing crusade to drive Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein from power; Martha Stewart’s recent troubles over insider stock trading; plus the usual mix of commercial spoofs and satirical songs. Also planned are episodes of such favorites as “Incompetents Hospital” and “The Antonio Banderas Show.”

“Right Between the Ears” recently was named a winner in the 2002 Silver Microphone Awards in the category Best Audio Program/Entertainment. In addition, during the summer months, the series was featured on Delta Radio, the in-flight programming service on Delta Air Lines flights nationwide.

Tickets cost $12 for cabaret seats and $10 for balcony seats. Tickets are on sale at Liberty Hall and TicketMaster outlets. Credit card orders may be placed online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (816) 931-3330.

Kansas Public Radio at the Kansas University includes KANU, Lawrence, at 91.5-FM; KANH 89.7-FM in Emporia; 89.7-FM in Atchison; and on the Web at kanu.ku.edu.
