Collector donates art to Rutgers

? Rutgers University will receive more than 3,300 pieces of art from a California collector.

The donation, worth nearly $5.5 million, is the largest ever to the university’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. It includes works by the donor, June Wayne, and pieces by 128 other artists such as Willem de Kooning and Roy Lichtenstein.

Rutgers will sell about 200 pieces from the collection at a Nov. 21 auction at Swann Auction Galleries in New York. It will use the proceeds to establish a fund to support the university’s Center for Innovative Print and Paper.

The donated works will be housed at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers.
