Telemarketing: Deadline for no-call list creating scam activity

The Better Business Bureau of Northeast Kansas is warning area businesses and consumers to be on the alert for an increase in telemarketing scams. The registration deadline on the state’s no-call list is encouraging telemarketers to work their lists before the first consumer no-call list is published Tuesday.

Consumers should not answer any questions or give out personal data, according to Joyce Woodard, president of the bureau.

Senior citizens are being enticed by the promise of being a finalist in sweepstakes, if they only will pay a processing fee.

Woodard encourages Kansans to register on the no-call list by calling (866) 362-4160 or clicking on www.ink.org/public/ksag.

Workplace: Signs that your job may be in jeopardy

Is the boss thinking of letting you go? It’s a question that occurs to many workers these days as companies look for ways to streamline in a weak economy.

Meridian Resources, a business coaching firm in South Carolina, has compiled a list of warning signs that might indicate an employee’s job is in jeopardy:

Your boss, even your colleagues, are making less eye contact with you.

Your co-workers are more aware of what’s going on in your areas of responsibility than you are.

When an important company meeting is held, you’re not asked to attend.

Some of your responsibilities at work have either been taken away and given to others because of “restructuring” or “reorganization.”

Finally, while you were once actively encouraged to join office-related associations and attend conferences, you’re not anymore.
