Bangladesh: Two venues bombed; at least 10 are dead

At least four bombs exploded inside a packed movie house and a crowded circus show Saturday in southwestern Bangladesh, killing at least 10 people and injuring another 200, local police said.

The death toll was expected to increase, a Satkhira police official said on condition of anonymity.

However, the national police headquarters in Dhaka said they could confirm that 40 people were injured and 27 were taken to hospitals.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosions.

London: Thousands march against Iraq attack

More than 150,000 Britons from all regions, ages and social backgrounds, marched Saturday in central London, urging Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Bush not to invade Iraq.

“Tony Blair, shame, shame, no more killing in my name,” went one chant.

“We believe it would be wholly immoral and wrong and criminal for the United States and Britain to attack Iraq and inflict casualties upon innocent people,” Tony Benn, a former Labor Party legislator.

Sudan: Thunderstorm hits capital; 33 people die

A violent thunderstorm toppled a Ferris wheel and sank a Nile River pleasure boat in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, killing 33 people, police said.

Seventeen people, mostly women and children, plunged to their death when the Ferris wheel they were riding at an amusement park collapsed during the storm Friday night.

On the river, 16 people drowned when their boat sank in the storm.
