IN 1902

On Sept. 28, 1902, the Lawrence World editorialized regarding a marriage involving an operator that “An eastern millionaire has married a telephone girl because he was captivated by her low, sweet voice and found that she lived up to her voice. There is a good deal to this. Men keep company with the loud girl but they never marry her. They will walk down the street with the hilarious girl who bumps from side to side like a drunken sailor but they don’t want their wives to walk that way. And referring back to telephone girls there is a great lesson in this that Ottawa and Topeka girls ought to take home and see if it hits them.”
