Kansas, Chattanooga work on series in basketball

Kansas University basketball coach Roy Williams and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga’s Jeff Lebo are working on scheduling a 2-for-1 basketball series that will begin next season.

Lebo was a player at the University of North Carolina from 1986 to ’89 when Williams worked as an assistant on Dean Smith’s staff.

“We are in the preliminary stages. We don’t have dates or numbers. He (Williams) said we’d talk about it when the recruiting period is over (Oct. 5),” Lebo told the Chattanooga Times Free Press on Thursday.

“He’s doing this as a huge favor to me and our basketball program. It’s become a very difficult situation to find somebody that good to come in and play. That’s the way with college basketball today. The big boys aren’t going to travel on the road. They have nothing to gain from it.”

UT-Chattanooga would play two games in Allen Fieldhouse with one in 11,218-seat McKenzie Arena.
