Firebirds’ golf third at Spring Hill event

Spring Hill Free State High’s girls golf team placed third out of six teams at a tournament at Spring Hill’s Sycamore Ridge on Wednesday.

The Firebirds totaled 187 strokes. Overland Park Aquinas won with 159.

Ashley Johnson (44) placed seventh and Jaclyn Morgenstern (46) was 10th for FSHS.

“It’s the first time everybody broke 50 on the same day,” coach Steve Grant said. “I was really pleased with the consistency. It’s something we’ve been working toward. I thought they did really well on a really tough course.”

Baker men cruise

Baldwin Barry Cummings scored twice to pace Baker University to a 5-1 men’s soccer victory against Avila on Wednesday. The Wildcats also received goals from Joe McArdle, Blake Reynolds and Pat Intfen. BU, now 4-1-2 and ranked No. 21 in the country, will play host to Tabor on Saturday.
