Kenneth L. Dickinson
Leavenworth ? Graveside services with military honors for Kenneth L. Dickinson, 69, Nixa, Mo., will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Veterans Affairs National Cemetery, Leavenworth.
Mr. Dickinson died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at his home.
He was born March 13, 1933, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Harvey L. and Ethel (Brewington) Dickinson. He moved to Lawrence in 1985 from Houston.
Mr. Dickinson served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1950 until his retirement on May 31, 1972. He served in Japan, Korea, Germany, Vietnam and the Philippines. His service career was in the accounting and finance area with special assignments as an accounting instructor at Shepherd Air Force Base Technical School, an armed forces courier assigned to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and an inspector in accounting and finance for the 13th Air Force Inspector General.
After retiring from the military, he worked as plant field superintendent and plant manager at an oil field in Houston. In 1985, he and his wife moved to Lawrence, where he earned a degree in constitutional history from Kansas University. He graduated with honors. He and his wife later moved to the Ozarks.
Mr. Dickinson was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, American Legion Post No. 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650 and Disabled American Veterans Kansas Chapter 22.
He married Martha J. Irwin. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth, Kansas City; and Kevin, Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Kelly, Los Angeles, Kathryn Cook, Nixa, Mo.; and Kimberly Carleo, Parkville, Mo.; a brother, Lester, Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
The family suggests memorials to Community Hospices of America or the Airman’s Relief Fund, sent in care of Greenlawn South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, MO 65807.
