Graves back at class
Omar Wilkes, a 6-foot-3 guard from Los Angeles, says he’ll pick either Kansas, UCLA or California on Wednesday at a press conference at Loyola High School.
“All three visits were fun, but in different ways,” Wilkes told Russ Blake of rivalshoops.com. “Kansas was fun because all of the players hung out together and told me stories about coach (Roy) Williams.
“Cal was very similar to that, plus I really enjoy being in the Bay Area of Oakland and San Francisco. At UCLA, I was able to go out to different places in the area that I had never been exposed to before.”
Wilkes  he said he still could change his plans regarding a press session  averaged 22 points, six rebounds and five assists last season.
Marcus Dove, 6-8 from Long Beach, Calif., will visit Arizona State this weekend and Oklahoma State in October. He says he may visit Kansas for Late Night With Roy Williams.

Graves back on campus: KU basketball newcomer Jeff Graves returned to campus this week after spending two weeks at home recovering from a concussion sustained in a car accident.
The 6-9, 280-pound Graves is attending classes, but has not yet been cleared by team physician Dr. Larry Magee to begin physical activity. Graves’ condition will be monitored daily with KU doctors and trainers to take it slow with Graves. Junior Bryant Nash also is sidelined with a broken thumb.

Sneak peak: KU senior guard Kirk Hinrich gave his early assessment of pick-up action Wednesday to former teammate Brett Ballard on Ballard’s Rock Chalk Sports Talk radio show.
“At this point, it’s the best shape (condition) of any team I’ve been on down the line,” Hinrich said. “Everybody is working their butts off.
“We’re struggling for numbers. We lost you (Ballard), Todd (Kappelmann), Lewis (Harrison), (Chris) Zerbe, Drew (Gooden) and Jeff (Boschee). We’ve been looking for practice players to help us get better.”
It’s a shame 6-6 junior Nash broke his thumb last week, Hinrich added. Nash will miss at least two more weeks.
“I was really impressed with Bryant Nash,” Hinrich said. “The strides he’s made since last year have been tremendous. It’s really unfortunate Bryant broke his thumb. He’s had spurts where he was unbelievable, shooting it real well. Mike Lee and Jeff Hawkins, I think, will be big off the bench.”
